Indian State Tamil Nadu Formulates New AI, Blockchain and Cybersecurity Policies

Tamil Nadu, destination of choice for IT sector becomes the first state in India to formulate AI, Blockchain and Cybersecurity policies.

Indian State, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, declared new government policies related to cybersecurity, blockchain technology, and artificial intelligence (AI). Palaniswami unveiled the policies while partaking in a CII ‘Connect 2020’ conference organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) through videoconferencing.

Tamil Nadu is the first Indian state to develop AI, Blockchain, and Cybersecurity policies. The policies include Tamil Nadu Cyber Security Policy, 2020, Tamil Nadu Blockchain Policy, 2020, and Tamil Nadu Safe and Ethical Artificial Intelligence Policy, 2020.

Characteristics of AI, Blockchain, and Cybersecurity Policies

Tamil Nadu’s AI, Blockchain and Cybersecurity policies will deliver social and economic welfare programs transparently. The Safe and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy aims to promote effective, fast, secure, and transparent public service delivery. It also aims to offer AI-driven e-Governance applications. Additionally, it intends to provide a roadmap for the policy-makers to embrace AI-based solutions. Moreover, it strives to promote ventures in AI research and development.

The policy on blockchain technology attempts to deliver transparency and competence to government processes. The state government has been providing various online services. It has been defending the network from hacker attacks, for which the government formulated the Tamil Nadu Cybersecurity Policy 2020.

Tamil Nadu to be a Destination of Choice for IT Sector

According to the CM, the state proceeds to act as a destination of choice for India’s IT and IT-based services sector. He said that the state would shortly be operating Knowledge Proof Identity Based Services Delivery Project. However, it will revolutionize the offerings of government services to citizens. The project will build and leverage the State Family Database (SFDB) and Blockchain backbone infrastructure.

The blockchain infrastructure serves as a single origin of proof for all government data and processes. Additionally, it may also be used to re-imagine governance and promote blockchain use in the state. The state also recognizes the requirement to build a forum on encouraging association between industry, start-ups, and academia to build an ecosystem.

Conclusively, Tamil Nadu’s AI, Blockchain and, Cybersecurity policies will support the government to restructure governance in the nation.
