Just Eat Enables Bitcoin Payments in France across 15000 Restaurants

Just Eat, accquired by Takeaway.com has associated with Bitpay to enable its users to pay in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Online food delivery platform Just Eat has commenced accepting cryptocurrencies for 15,000 restaurants in France. The Just Eat group functions in 13 countries. The delivery service is using Bitpay as its Bitcoin payment provider. Its website for France has recently undergone a significant makeover following Just Eat Plc’s acquisition by Takeaway.com. In April, the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) greenlighted Just Eat’s acquisition by Takeaway.com.

Established in 2001, the Just Eat group has 240,000 restaurant associates. It operates in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Ireland, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland. Additionally, the group has a stake in Ifood in Brazil and Mexico. Just Eat is one of the significant food delivery firms in the U.K. market, while Takeaway.com functions in 11 countries overseas. 

How Does Just Eat and Bitpay’s Bitcoin Payments Function

Just Eat has been taking payments in bitcoin for quite some time. The Just Eat website for France reveals that with the site restructuring, there in expansion in the number of payment methods. It now incorporates Apple Pay, Google Pay (via Just Eat app), bitcoin and other payment methods offered by restaurants. The different payment methods include credit card, Paypal, cash, checks, or meal vouchers.

During the checkout process for an order on the French Just Eat website, the payment methods displays. It lists over 15,000 restaurants. Bitcoin is one amongst the payment options. To pay with bitcoin or other supported cryptocurrencies, one has to prefer the “Bitcoin” option when placing the order. After clicking “order,” one will be transferred to the Bitpay website.

Further, one can select from a long list of wallets and exchanges. One can choose from several cryptocurrencies supported by Bitpay. However, the cryptocurrencies accepted by Bitpay includes, BTC, BCH, ETH, BUSD, USDC, GUSD, PAX, and XRP.

The website further elucidates that it does not charge any fees for Bitcoin payments. To make a Bitcoin payment, one must build a digital wallet by downloading special software or an app. According to the current price, the amount of bitcoin will be estimated. Nevertheless, in case of a Bitcoin payment cancellation, the customer will be compensated in Euros, in the customer’s conventional bank account.
